Our salmon

Arnarlax's natural and sustainable concept of salmon farming in the clear Arctic ocean around Iceland has been established with strict quality standards, which do not allow for the use of antibiotics.

With six farming locations in three separate fjords at our disposal, Arnarlax is able to use the "all-in all-out" alternating farming model to its full potential. By allowing each farming site to fallow for a few months after each generation has been fully harvested, every new farming cycle starts its growth in a clear and naturally replenished site.

Smolts

Salmon roe

The eggs used for the farming of Arnarlax's salmon originate from an domestic breeding company with decades of experience in family selection to secure optimal growth of the salmon in the Icelandic conditions.

All the smolts are grown at our own domestic hatcheries, where they swim in free-flowing natural water that is drawn from adjacent wells, yielding pristine arctic spring water that has been filtered through the lava fields for centuries.

This geothermal smolt production requires no recirculation of water, replicating nature as closely as possible and resulting in a healthier and more resilient stock.

Farming location

With six farming locations in three separate fjords at our disposal, Arnarlax is able to use the "all-in all-out" alternating farming model to its full potential. By allowing each farming site to fallow for a few months after each generation has been fully harvested, every new farming cycle starts its growth in a clear and naturally replenished site.

This exceptional technique keep the salmon free from any biological hazards, such as diseases and pests.

Feed

The key feature of the quality certified feed used for the Arnarlax salmon is a carefully managed balance between nutritional value and sustainability.

All ingredients in the Arnarlax feed, both from marine and plant sources, are always under great scrutiny due to sustainability concerns over fish stock health and land based farming practices. Even the Omega-3 fatty acids, which traditionally have mainly originated from pelagic species, are now being sourced by additional means, such as the Antarctic krill.

Sustainability

The entire philosophy of salmon farming by Arnarlax is an ecologically friendly and self-sustaining operation in harmony with nature, reducing the carbon footprint on the environment.

About 85% of the total energy supply in Iceland is derived from domestically produced renewable energy sources.

This natural green hydroelectric and geothermal energy is thoroughly utilized throughout the whole farming process, from the growth of the smolts at our land-based hatcheries all the way to packing of the product for export.

ASC sites under assessment

Important part of the ASC standard is a public display of information regarding the farm activities.
